Shipping from China to Poland: Sea, Rail, Air and Express Guide (2026)
Short answer: You can ship from China to Poland by sea freight (FCL or LCL), rail freight, air freight or express courier. Gdańsk has direct container services from China, and Małaszewicze is an established gateway for China–Europe rail. Indicative planning ranges are 35–45 days port to port for FCL, 18–25 days terminal to terminal for rail, 5–8 days door to door for air and 3–7 days door to door for express. Confirm the dated itinerary and scope for your shipment. Before booking, confirm the importer, the EORI number, who handles customs clearance and what the quote includes up to the delivery address.
BAT Logistics is a Guangzhou-based freight forwarder operating since 2013. We book space directly with shipping lines including COSCO, Hapag-Lloyd and MSC, work directly with airlines, operate our own express accounts and specialise in dangerous goods, including lithium batteries and energy storage systems, as well as general commercial freight. The agreed service can include supplier pickup, export clearance coordination, international freight and coordination with your Polish customs agent through to final delivery.
We aim to respond within 24 hours.
Sea, Rail, Air or Express: Quick Comparison
On smaller screens, scroll the table to read all columns.
| Option | Best for | Indicative transit, China to Poland | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sea freight FCL | Larger orders or goods needing a dedicated container | 35–45 days port to port to Gdańsk | Loading plan, payload, sailing, destination charges, container unloading |
| Sea freight LCL | Smaller commercial consignments | 40–55 days door to door | Consolidation, chargeable volume, deconsolidation, collection terms |
| Rail freight | Mid-urgency cargo where a confirmed service accepts the goods | 18–25 days terminal to terminal | Operator acceptance, route, border conditions, transfers, terminal-to-door costs |
| Air freight | Urgent parts, restocking, high-value goods | 5–8 days door to door | Chargeable weight, routing, cargo acceptance, clearance, final delivery |
| Express courier | Samples and small parcels | 3–7 days door to door | Commodity restrictions, dimensional charges, import arrangements |
Transit times are indicative. They exclude factory readiness and can be extended by transshipment, border delays, customs queries and delivery appointments.
FCL means full container load; LCL means less than container load. Neither describes a complete door-to-door service by itself, so confirm the pickup, destination and customs scope behind each offer.
Start with the Cargo and the Polish Delivery Address
A useful quote starts with the actual goods and addresses, not just “China to Poland”.
Send us:
Product name and intended use.
Package count, gross weight and dimensions of each package.
Factory pickup address and cargo-ready date.
Full Polish delivery address with postcode.
Buyer, consignee and importer, especially if the goods go to a third-party warehouse.
Anything that affects handling or acceptance: batteries, liquids, chemicals, non-stackable pallets or oversized crates.
Photos and a packing list help us confirm whether the proposed vehicle, container or terminal can handle the shipment. For deliveries in Warsaw, Łódź, Poznań or Wrocław, tell us whether the site has a loading dock or needs a tail-lift vehicle.
Sea Freight: Gdańsk, Gdynia and the Actual Service
Gdańsk has direct container services from China, so Polish sea freight does not always require transshipment at another European port. Port of Gdańsk Gdynia is another Polish gateway to assess; confirm the proposed direct or feeder itinerary rather than assuming one routing. The booked itinerary decides whether your cargo travels direct or connects through a hub.
Compare the sea service from the actual Chinese port (such as Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen or Qingdao) with the onward journey to the receiver. A lower ocean rate can be offset by destination handling or a more expensive inland truck. Confirm which terminal releases the goods and where clearance takes place.
FCL: before ordering equipment, confirm who loads at the factory, whether the cargo fits through the container doors and how it will be secured. At destination, agree who unloads, the free time allowed and the empty-container return.
LCL: cargo passes through consolidation and deconsolidation warehouses, and destination charges can be significant on a small shipment. At around 13–15 CBM, request both FCL and LCL quotes; packing, weight and local charges determine the comparison. Compare LCL and FCL quotes to the same final address.
Rail Freight: Małaszewicze and Other Corridors
Poland is an important gateway for China–Europe rail. Małaszewicze, on the Belarus border, is the key transfer point, and operator networks also serve terminals such as Warsaw and Łódź. The terminal named in a quote affects handling, customs and onward trucking costs. DB Cargo FLS Poland
Rail to Poland is not one fixed service. A northern routing through Russia and Belarus differs from a trans-Caspian or Middle Corridor arrangement involving sea crossings and additional transfers. The countries, terminals and onward route depend on the booked service. Check border conditions, applicable sanctions and operator acceptance before booking.
For your shipment, confirm:
Whether the operator accepts the exact commodity and packing.
Which borders and transit countries the service uses.
Whether sanctions, export controls or operator restrictions affect the goods or parties.
How transfers, inspections or border interruptions could change the schedule.
Whether your cargo insurance covers the proposed route.
A published network map is not a confirmed departure. We check the actual service for your cargo-ready date before the goods are sent to a rail warehouse.
Air Freight and Express
Air freight suits production parts, repairs or restocking that cannot wait for sea or rail. A proposed service may arrive at Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), connect through another hub or arrive at an airport outside Poland (such as Frankfurt) followed by a truck. Ask which airport handles arrival, where import clearance takes place and how the goods reach the receiver.
Chargeable weight is commonly based on the higher of actual and volumetric weight. If the quoted service uses a divisor of 6,000, volumetric kilograms are L × W × H in centimetres ÷ 6,000; a service using 5,000 gives a different result. Confirm the service divisor and provide final packed dimensions. Bulky or non-stackable cargo can cost much more than its gross weight suggests.
Express suits samples and small parcels, but courier acceptance must be checked for the product. Batteries, liquids and other restricted items need specific approval.
Case Study: 30,000 Lithium-Ion Cells by Direct Freighter to Warsaw
In October 2026, a Polish customer asked us to fly a consignment of lithium-ion cells from China to Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) on a direct flight, without transfers through another European hub.
On smaller screens, scroll the table to read all columns.
| Cargo | 30,000 × 21700 lithium-ion cells, 3.7 V, 2,800 mAh (about 10.4 Wh per cell) |
|---|---|
| Classification | UN 3480, Class 9 — lithium-ion cells shipped on their own (IATA PI 965) |
| Route | China → Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), direct cargo charter flight |
| Booking date | 9 October 2026 |
| Result | Delivered on schedule and cleared smoothly in Poland; the customer has further shipments planned with us |
How we handled it:
Direct charter capacity: standalone UN 3480 cells are forbidden on passenger aircraft, and many China–Europe freighter routings transfer through another hub. We secured space on a direct cargo charter flight into Warsaw to meet the customer’s requirement.
Dangerous goods packing and labelling: our DG staff reviewed packing and the applicable marks and labels for the accepted packing instruction, including the Class 9 lithium battery hazard and Cargo Aircraft Only labels. The cargo was palletised, strapped and fitted with “Do Not Stack” cones. Required marks depend on the applicable PI 965 section; the photographs are not a universal packing guide.
Documents: we checked the UN 38.3 test summary, SDS and dangerous goods declaration against the cell model before tendering the cargo to the airline.

The customer requested a direct flight to the destination airport. BAT coordinated the flight arrangement and dangerous goods preparation described above.
How Much Does Shipping from China to Poland Cost?
Give each provider the same pickup point, cargo details, delivery address and service scope. Otherwise, a port-to-port price can look cheaper than an offer that already includes destination handling and delivery.
A complete quote separates:
China pickup, origin handling and export clearance.
Main freight and surcharges.
Arrival terminal or deconsolidation charges.
Customs brokerage and any transit services.
Duty and import VAT, if included.
Final delivery, appointments and unloading.
Check the currency, charging unit, validity and payment terms, and ask which costs are conditional: examinations, storage, waiting time, demurrage, detention, redelivery and special handling. For example, two offers to deliver a container to a factory near Poznań are not equivalent if only one includes the inland truck and empty-container return.
How Long Does Shipping from China to Poland Take?
Indicative transit times:
Sea freight (FCL): 35–45 days port to port to Gdańsk, plus pickup and delivery
Sea freight (LCL): 40–55 days door to door
Rail freight: 18–25 days terminal to terminal
Air freight: 5–8 days door to door
Express: 3–7 days door to door
Port-to-port, terminal-to-terminal and door-to-door times are different measurements. A realistic schedule covers:
Packing, documents and cargo readiness.
Pickup and arrival before the warehouse or terminal cutoff.
Departure on the booked service.
Transfers and arrival at the destination gateway.
Customs clearance and release.
Delivery appointment and receipt at the final address.
If you have a required delivery date, tell us at the quotation stage. Sailing changes, rail border conditions, missed connections and warehouse appointments can alter the plan, so keep a buffer rather than treating an estimated arrival as guaranteed.
Polish Import Clearance: Importer, EORI and Declarations
The invoice, packing list and transport document must describe the same shipment. Product descriptions must be specific enough for classification and screening; “accessories” is not enough.
Confirm the importer and EORI
Agree the importing business and its customs representative before dispatch. EORI is the EU customs identification number and is valid across all member states. A business with an EORI from another EU country does not need a second Polish number; PUESC explains how existing EU numbers are used. Polish customs declarations are submitted electronically through the PUESC platform, usually by a customs agent.
Keep the declaration roles separate
The import declaration, the safety and security filing (ENS) and customs transit are different steps. The Entry Summary Declaration (ENS) supplies advance safety and security information through the EU’s Import Control System 2 (ICS2) and does not replace import clearance. For some road and rail movements, ENS data can be combined with a transit declaration. European Commission ICS2 guidance
Who does what
On smaller screens, scroll the table to read all columns.
| Party | Responsibilities |
|---|---|
| Supplier or shipper | Accurate goods, invoice and packing information; export documents |
| Importer | EORI, product compliance, duty and VAT |
| Customs agent | Import declaration via PUESC and customs representation |
| BAT Logistics | Pickup, export clearance, freight booking, document coordination and delivery arrangements within the agreed quote |
| Carrier or rail operator | Transport, ICS2 filing and transit declarations as agreed |
| Receiver | Delivery appointment, access and unloading |
Match supporting documents to the product
Your customs agent should confirm the commodity code, value, origin and supporting documents. Product conformity, labelling, licensing or inspection requirements depend on the actual goods; CE documentation is required for many, but not all, products.
Duty, Import VAT and Door-to-Door Responsibilities
Customs duty
There is no flat duty rate for goods from China. Classification, customs value and origin determine the duty. European Commission customs duty guidance Poland’s ISZTAR4 tariff calculator gives an indicative calculation, not a final customs assessment.
Import VAT
Poland’s standard VAT rate is 23%, with reduced rates for some goods. The import VAT base includes customs value, duty and applicable incidental costs not already included, including transport to the first destination in the country of importation and, where known at importation, further transport within the EU. It is not simply the supplier’s invoice value. European Commission import VAT taxable amount Eligible VAT-registered importers may be able to settle import VAT in their VAT return rather than paying it at the border; confirm the treatment with your customs agent and tax adviser.
Check Low-Value Parcel Rules Separately
Do not assume that a low-value parcel is duty-free or that every parcel qualifies for a flat charge. Check the current EU treatment for the consignment value, sale, declaration and delivery channel. The temporary €3 measure for eligible low-value consignments has specific conditions; it is not a universal freight rate or a blanket exemption for business purchases. EU Council small-parcel guidance
Door-to-door is not automatically DDP
Put the responsibilities in writing: the importer, customs agent, who pays duty and VAT, the delivery point and unloading. “Door-to-door” describes the transport scope; it does not mean DDP terms. If your sales contract uses DDP or another Incoterm, check that the shipping quote and customs plan match it.
EU Rules That Can Affect Goods from China
Customs clearance is not the only requirement. Check these EU rules before you ship:
Anti-dumping and countervailing duties: many Chinese products, such as e-bikes, certain steel products and some chemicals, carry additional EU duties. Check the commodity code in the EU TARIC database.
CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism): check whether the actual commodity code is covered. The definitive regime applies from 2026, with a single annual 50-tonne mass threshold for covered cement, iron and steel, aluminium and fertiliser goods; electricity and hydrogen are not covered by that mass exemption. Confirm the importer or indirect representative’s authorisation and current declaration requirements. European Commission CBAM guidance
GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation): for consumer products within its scope, check the applicable safety, traceability and EU responsible-economic-operator requirements.
CE marking and product rules: electrical goods, machinery, toys and other regulated products must meet EU requirements before they are placed on the market.
Delivery to Warehouses, Factories and Amazon FBA in Poland
Plan the last leg before the goods leave China. Confirm receiving hours, contact, access restrictions and unloading equipment. A container truck needs different access from a pallet delivery van.
For full containers, agree the unloading method and the time allowed. For pallets, confirm whether a loading dock, forklift or tail lift is needed; special unloading equipment must be booked in advance.
Poland hosts several Amazon fulfilment centres serving the German and EU market. For Amazon FBA and other fulfilment deliveries, use the assigned facility address and its receiving instructions, and confirm shipment references, labels, pallet specifications and appointments before dispatch. A fulfilment-centre code does not replace the delivery address or importer arrangement.
Send changes to the destination or receiving instructions as soon as possible; rerouting after arrival affects the truck booking, customs plan and charges.
Batteries, BESS and Other Restricted Cargo
Dangerous goods are our specialty. Batteries and battery energy storage systems need a cargo-specific review before booking by sea, rail, air or courier. Provide the battery type, model, UN classification if known, configuration, condition, packing and manufacturer and test documents (such as the UN 38.3 test summary).
State whether the batteries are shipped on their own, packed with equipment, contained in equipment or installed in a larger system. For a BESS unit, add the total weight, dimensions and lifting and unloading arrangements. Check the selected rail operator’s acceptance of the exact battery configuration early; do not assume an ordinary general-cargo booking covers it.

China to Poland Shipping FAQ
How long does shipping from China to Poland take?
Indicative planning ranges are 35–45 days port to port for FCL to Gdańsk, 18–25 days terminal to terminal for rail, 5–8 days door to door for air and 3–7 days door to door for express. They exclude factory readiness; the dated itinerary, customs and delivery arrangements determine the actual schedule.
Is sea or rail freight better for my shipment to Poland?
Sea freight is usually cheaper for large orders with a flexible schedule. Rail may offer a middle option for cost and timing when an operator accepts the goods and the quoted corridor meets the delivery requirement. Compare both to the same Polish address, including inland delivery.
Can my cargo travel by rail from China to Poland?
It depends on the commodity, packing, route and departure. Send us the cargo details before booking; a general rail advertisement does not confirm acceptance of restricted cargo or the availability of a border crossing.
Is there a direct sea service from China to Poland?
Yes. Gdańsk has direct container services from China. Some services still transship at a North European hub, so check the itinerary for your booking.
What is included in a door-to-door quote?
Only the services listed in the offer. Check pickup, origin charges, main freight, destination handling, brokerage, duty, VAT and delivery, and agree who imports the goods and who unloads.
Who needs an EORI number and who handles import clearance?
The importing business needs an EU EORI number, valid in all member states. Import declarations are usually filed by a customs agent through PUESC.
What is the import VAT rate in Poland?
The standard rate is 23%, with reduced rates for some goods. Calculate import VAT on the applicable customs value, duty and incidental-cost base, not simply the invoice amount; the relevant destination transport costs can extend beyond arrival at the EU border.
Can you deliver to an Amazon FBA warehouse in Poland?
Yes. Send the assigned warehouse address, shipment details and receiving instructions. Customs and importer arrangements must be settled before dispatch.
What information is needed for batteries or a BESS shipment?
The model, battery type, UN classification if known, configuration, condition, documents and packed weight and dimensions. For BESS, include lifting information and site unloading conditions.
